MAJOR INITIATIVES OF DISTRICT 31A

Marjorie McCune Memorial Center, a licensed Adult Assisted Living Home, is owned and operated by the Lions of Western North Carolina. Located in Black Mountain, the center is nestled in the Swannanoa Valley in a beautiful country setting. For those who live at The McCune Center, life is simply an extension of their own lives. Residents are able to spend time with their family, friends and neighbors in a setting that say "Welcome Home".

Founded in 1903, Eliada Home is a non-profit agency dedicated to helping children succeed. Located on a historic 200-acre campus in the mountains of Western North Carolina, serve children and families through a diverse spectrum of programs and services, including residential care, child development services, foster care, community support services, therapeutic recreation, and many others.

Camp Dogwood, located on Lake Norman in Catawba County, was started in 1967. It is owned and operated by the North Carolina Lions Foundation. Nothing like this camp exists anywhere else in the state, and from the first, it was a project that North Carolina Lions embraced.

The month of May will be a busy one for Multiple District 31. May 4-6 will be a Council Meeting and May 18-20 is the state convention; we need your representation and I hope you are planning to attend.
DID YOU KNOW?
- District 31-A has met the first two of five criteria to be eligible for the John Stickley Award!
- The new storage/maintenance building at the McCune Center is almost complete and Eagle Scout Cody McMechan has a project to build a gazebo at the center.
- The Franklin Lions Club has been named the best civic organization in Macon County for the third year in a row!
- The LEO club at Charles D. Owen High School is well under way! The school advisor is teacher Nina Fisher!
- Shelby Lions Club has a Senior Lions Village that they own and operate to help those in need of Low Income Housing.
- Asheville Lions Club has been reaching out to their community via radio spots that President Bob Blank recorded at Clear Channel Radio Stations
- ..... that I wish I could tell you all that our District 31-A Lions Clubs are doing!

2012-2013 Club Officer Training
It is time for all 2011-2012 Club Presidents to form their clubs nominating committee, if they have not al-ready done so. Please note that, according to the Standard Form Lions Club Constitution and By-Laws, the committee should be functional by March, and club elections must take place by April 15. Information about elected officers is to be reported on the Officer Reporting Form (PU-101) or through the membership report-ing area of the association’s Web site by May 15, 2012.
If you are elected to serve as a club President, Secretary or Treasurer during the 2012-2013 Lions year, please plan to attend the Club Officer Training that will be held from 2:00-4:00 pm on Sunday, June 10, 2012. The training will be held at the Ramada Inn Biltmore West in Asheville, NC. You will receive more info pertaining to the training in future newsletters.
