Welcome from District Governor Dave Titus

Our motto of “We Serve” may mean different things to each of us. We are all called to serve; some of us are motivated to serve those in need in our local community, some of us are called to serve in the broader community of Western NC and beyond. Some of us are called to serve blind and visually impaired individuals, some of us are called to serve the hungry, some of us are called to serve youth, some of us are called to serve those less fortunate, and some of us are called to serve environmental concerns. Whatever your calling, we are glad that you are a Lion and have the opportunity to serve.

Our membership continues to decrease. We must reverse that trend if we want to remain relevant and serve our communities. Membership growth gets so much lip service at our gatherings, but are we actually doing those things in our communities that attract new members? Active clubs tend to be growing clubs. I would encourage each of you to challenge the status quo. Add a new service project to your events calendar. Add a new fund raiser to your schedule. Publicize your activities in the community. Remember that change does not always result in progress, but progress always results in change!

I want 2014-2015 to be all about the clubs. After all, we are the International Association of Lions Clubs. Just ask “how the district can help the club be successful”. The District Leadership Team stands ready to help you achieve your goals.

Be COMMITTED to your club and your community, stay FOCUSED on your goals, and achieve RESULTS.

Remember, Lionism…It’s a TEAM Sport

Everyday, from Murphy to Manteo, North Carolina, over 10,000 Lions work diligently to improve their communities and the world around them. The clubs that form Multiple District 31 in hold the same vision as fellow Lions around the world and that is to serve those less fortunate.

Through the dilligent efforts of our members, Multiple District 31 Lions are there to help, whatever the need. In District 31A our many service projects address the needs of people all across the region and include:
  • McCune Memorial Center - A licensed Adult Care Assisted & Independent Living facility owned and operated by the Lions of Western North Carolina located in Black Mountain.

  • Camp Dogwood - Located on Lake Norman this facility has been the hallmark of achievement for NC Lions and a wonderful vacation retreat for more than 850 blind and visually impaired campers each summer.

  • Brigher Visions - Our most important fund to provide services to the blind and visually impaired through the North Carolina Lions Foundation.

  • VIP Fishing Tournament - Drawing people from 77 countries, this project provides the stage for the largest gathering of blind & visually impaired people in North Carolina.

  • Mobile Screening Unit - Travelling all across North Carolina conducting free vision screenings, the Mobile Screening Unit can be the first line in the detection of vision problems.

Other North Carolina Lions projects include: Clinical Eye Research, Diabetes Awareness, Services for Children, Organ-Tissue Procurement, Boys & Girls Home of NC, Moorehead School for the Blind and numerous others.

These programs along with community specific projects fulfill our mission to serve our communities all across North Carolina providing humanitarian needs.
