MAJOR INITIATIVES OF DISTRICT 31A

Marjorie McCune Memorial Center Black Mountain NC

Marjorie McCune Memorial Center, a licensed Adult Assisted Living Home, is owned and operated by the Lions of Western North Carolina. Located in Black Mountain, the center is nestled in the Swannanoa Valley in a beautiful country setting. For those who live at The McCune Center, life is simply an extension of their own lives. Residents are able to spend time with their family, friends and neighbors in a setting that say "Welcome Home".

Founded in 1903, Eliada Home is a non-profit agency dedicated to helping children succeed. Located on a historic 200-acre campus in the mountains of Western North Carolina, serve children and families through a diverse spectrum of programs and services, including residential care, child development services, foster care, community support services, therapeutic recreation, and many others.

Camp Dogwood, located on Lake Norman in Catawba County, was started in 1967. It is owned and operated by the North Carolina Lions Foundation. Nothing like this camp exists anywhere else in the state, and from the first, it was a project that North Carolina Lions embraced.

This article will be devoted to several important items that are coming up! They are as follows: the Fall Convention Planning Committee Wrap-up Meeting, the Tree Planting Project, our next Cabinet Meeting, our next possible new charter club, and our new LEO club.

The Fall Convention Planning Committee will have its Wrap-up meeting at 2 PM at the Crowne Plaza in Asheville on January 15th, 2012. Please plan to be there.

The Dogwood Trees are to be shipped to the distribution center on Sardis Rd. in Asheville on February 16th. Our Zone chairs are to meet at the center at 10 AM on the 18th to pick up the trees for their zone. Rob Townley from the Western NC Forest Service will be there to help us.

Our next Cabinet Meeting will be held at the Etowah Lions Den at 1 PM on February 25th. Each club should have at least their President and Secretary present. Each of the Zone Chairs will give a report and any district chair can; a written report is to be given to Secretary/Treasurer Larry Gasperson.
Finger food will be served at the break and we will have something to drink.

I have some exciting news about our next possible club to charter! Edneyville is an area Lion Paulette, our GMT Chair, Sec/Treasurer Larry, Zone 7 Chair Betty and I have visited to research the potential for a new club to charter. We have found a lot of interest and are going to have a meeting with representatives of the area on January 21st..

Some more good news is that a new LEO club is being formed at Charles D. Owen High School! LEO Chair Larry Colford and representatives from Black Mtn. Lions Club and Swannanoa Valley Lions Club will have our 2nd meeting with them on January 27th.

The next District 31A Cabinet Meeting will be held on Saturday, February 25th at the Etowah Lions Dens. The meeting will being at 1:00 p.m.
